GlaxoSmithKline is a major producer of the branded drugs in the market. But due to the ever increasing demand of the generic drugs in the market, GlaxoSmithKline has decided to enter the generics market. GlaxoSmithKline is the leading producer of the drugs to that are used to overcome Malaria and Tuberculosis. It is because of the medications from GlaxoSmithKline that many of the hazardous disease are nearly eradicated from the world. GlaxoSmithKline for the entering the business of the generic drugs has now decided to purchase the Aspen Pharmacare from the South Africa. The deal is to be one of the biggest financial deals of the year. Around $1.8 billion would be the estimated cost of the Aspen Pharmacare.
Aspen Pharmacare was searching for some partnership so that it could once again come up with some new medications specifically the generic drugs to match up with the African market standards. Glaxo lend a helping hand to the Aspen Pharmacare by purchasing the 25% stakes of the company and gave an economical support to the Aspen Pharmacare. Glaxo also wanted to enter the generic drugs industry and this was a good chance to do it.
GlaxoSmithKline will start manufacturing the generic drugs by the next month and will be selling these low-cost drugs in Africa, Latin America, and a few other markets. GlaxoSmithKline has an aim to enter the United States generic market by next year and soon would be starting the immediate steps for it. Buying a stake in Aspen would solidify that partnership and underscore Glaxo’s effort to build its sales in the developing world. Glaxo Chief Executive Andrew Witty has made that a crucial plank of his strategy for the company. For both the companies the decision of the merger is beneficially and up course for Aspen it was like saving their company from going into debts.
Aspen shares rose by about 12% to 54 rand in early trading in South Africa Wednesday, following a news report that Glaxo was preparing to take a "significant stake" in the company. Even the shares of the Aspen have again got its value back because of the Glaxo effect. The Aspen and GlaxoSmithKline together are planning to bring around new 450 generic drugs to the market which will include the wide range of antibiotics, antidepressants, HIV drugs, and pain relief medications. Under the terms of their marketing alliance, Glaxo will sell some of these products in new markets and share the profit with Aspen. Glaxo said it made "limited" upfront payments to Aspen after the deal was signed, but didn't disclose any figures.
Aspen Pharmacare is been able to make its hold once again in the African market because of the financial support from the Glaxo. Along with the generic drugs, Aspen will also continue to make it branded drugs. These branded drugs will be market by the Glaxo so that it could reach the every corner of the world. This New Year is really market as the deal year in which many major pharmacy ventures are taking place that are finally going to benefit to the customer because he will be getting the more options of the generic drugs, which would be very fine in the quality. Finally, GlaxoSmithKline has entered the generics market and we would be in a short span of time would be getting to use the generic drugs from them.
