Let’s say business is called “All The Best Electronics”, you would not want to affiliate your business with any product that is non relative to the main product, which in this case is electronics. The major brands or services on the internet today which are out there in the marketplace are strategically placing ads on their websites that are aimed for a specific target audience. It is not buy mere chance that these ads appear out of no where. So the same you would do as these major brands have done and target your audience so that it complements your major platform.

Another school of thought is to use services that are not related or targeted with the audience you have in mind. It is much more difficult because there is no specifics in mind. You are merely hoping that your audience will see you website and have a need at that time for product or service. If they do, lucky for you! You can still be effective in your brand’s visibility, because your brand is alongside other brands that your audience may be familiar with. Also, this gives you website visitors the opportunity to remember your website and return to it when they are ready to purchase what your brand has to offer. One cannot really determine buyer behavior in any case. You are simply getting your brand out there, hopefully to a captive audience in hopes that they will buy.

What Is An Advertiser And What Is Your Role As One?

The Advertiser is just that. They advertise their products and/or services to the public by way of the Publisher. The Advertiser can work with or without a network connection and get the affiliate to place their ads or links on their website or blog. The Advertiser uses a network so that the network handles the payment of commission to the affiliate . The Advertiser pays the affiliate a percentage and payout is made daily, weekly, or monthly. It depends upon the network’s payment system or the individual retailer.

They 3rd party network’s that handle the payment processing are many. That will be discussed later in the book. These 3rd party networks enter into agreements with the potential affiliate and they are considered a legal binding contract. The affiliate and the network can continue or discontinue their relationship at any time as long as one give the other notice. When signing up for a relationship with a network or individual merchant, make sure you as the affiliate reads all disclosures and print when necessary. there are many legalities involved and its just about making a sale on your website.

The Advertiser is also responsible to give to the Publisher information on the latest trends and promotions for the sole purpose to keep the publisher up to date in order to be an effective marketer. These are usually in the form of newsletters and they are updated monthly. Each retailer usually has an affiliate manager that handles any concerns related to the promotion of their product or service. Keep in touch with them as they are the ones who can be very helpful in handling your questions or concerns.. You also need to on a regular basis make sure merchants are paying you and on time. It is not a secret that there are problems as it relates to merchants paying their affiliates.
