Those who've been in SEO BIZ for a number of years know how much more competitive these days is compared to a few years ago. Number of web pages indexed by search engines has doubled, tripled and quadrupled in recent years. On top of that, a good part of the site owners and webmasters SEO know just enough to be dangerous. In the golden age of SEO, the vast majority of websites had not given a thought to search engines, and when made, it was only in some keywords and Meta tags.
In those days anyone who knew even the smallest bit about SEO could easily rank highly in all major search engines, with very little effort. Today the competition is fierce. Even phrases that nobody wants can sometimes be difficult to get top rankings for. Even if you do get the rankings they may be here one day and gone the next. The problem is magnified by new businesses and new websites. If your site is not at least several years old, your SEO efforts will be less likely to provide the results you want. This is a reason why your website optimization should always be seen as a long-term proposal. It's about targeted Traffic.
As we move forward in this industry, webmasters, site owners and SEOs need to shift their focus from asking how they can get this word to a top position. It’s about targeted traffic and converting it. Unfortunately, a large part of those looking into SEO services are still seeing the small picture. And are thinking of just top rankings for their keywords and not thinking about good traffic. Good traffic converts. It not only brings in visitors it brings in money and that’s the bottom line
Another trend I've been seeing a lot lately is the creation of content simply for the sake of creating content. What is it all about? Certainly SEOs throw the words "good content" around a lot, but why dose nobody seem to know what that means? We now have a whole cottage industry of companies who will allegedly write "good content" for you. Newsflash ... good content has nothing to do with the history of your products. Nor is good content a bunch madlib spam pages where you simply substitute the word phrases from one page to another. Good content is not stuff you write for search engines. What Exactly Is Good Content? Good content is unique. Really and truly unique. The key is good content creativity. Unfortunately, it seems that creativity itself is a dying art. Being creative is not looking at what your competitor is doing and copying them. It's being a leader, not a student. It's having your own voice and expressing your opinions, regardless of what others may think. It's pouring heart and soul into your website, not looking for the next quick fix. And this is making your site the best it can be for your site visitors AND the search engines. This is what brings in targeted traffic to the site not thousands of phrases, and this is what will help your site gain traffic for whatever phrases relate to it. But it is not easy, and it is not fast.
To have good SEO you need to give up your pet keywords and Forget about what you think you want, and learn more about what you really need. Beware of SEO Companies who will tell you what you want to hear and remember, there are a lot of SEO companies that will say they can do anything they want to do. You want to be # 1 for "spring"? Sure, no problem. They will take your money happily, do some work, and get immediate results. Do not blame them though - they were just saying what you wanted to hear.
Remember with today’s competition you need to rethink your SEO strategy from just ranking for your pet keyword to finding out what will bring in people who want your products or services. With good planning, patience and time you and a SEO firm that not only listens but guides you, you will succeed.
