When people want information, the first thing they do is goto their computer and do a search. Most choose Google, which means you'll want to be found in Google. Doing this can be tough, but it can be done. You can have hundreds, thousands and even Millions of search results. The secret is the right keywords.
If you have a new website set up, your goals should be set on getting your site to show up on Google. Actually, your site will eventually appear on Google as long as you don't block search engines from crawling on your site. Once your site has some regular visits and you submit your address to their search engine submission page, your site should appear within a month.
To really get traffic, you've got to have your website optimized. Optimization is making your website easy for the search engines to learn the content and find out what your site is about. Keywords are the major component and must be presented on your site. It can be easy at first with some key phrases.
So, what might your site be about? Maybe your site is about weight lose. Maybe a great phrase could be "weight loss recipe" or "Quick Weight Loss Plan". You've got to get creative and have many options. When you do your initial search to see how your key phrases might appear, you'll find there can be hundres and even millions of other websites who are there to compete with you. Don't worry about that now, just get to work.
Use as many keywords and phrases as you can and use them in your website as well. This will help you get higher in the search engine. Don't use too many keywords or your site won't make sense to your readers.
A good trick is to test out these keywords and compare the top 10 results with other keyword phrases. You can even go as far as visiting the links and observe their content and see where their strong keywords are. Finding the best keywords for your site takes a lot of research and patience.
Ask your friends for help. If they were going to look for a fat free pizza dough, what would they search for? Doing this can help you find out how others think and what they would type into the search box. There are even some great tools provided by Google. Google's keyword tool is fantastic, and you can find it by doing a search.
When you've got the keywords you want to use, now you simply wait and see how things go. Check your ranking by doing your own search to see where you fall in. Patience is the most important key to success. It can take several weeks to get where you want to be, but it's worth it. For immediate front page results, you can use Google Adwords.
