The process of investigating may seem like a tedious one, but it is a necessary one. You will use the information you learn through investigating to make your presentation easier and build confidence. It can be key to closing a sale. Learn good investigating skills like watching, listening and questioning and learn how to appropriately use the information to increase your sales.

Auto Sales Training Tip One: Good Investigating Skills Simply put, the best way to investigate your customer is to build rapport with them. This will allow you to easily ask them questions and find out what you need to know. Building rapport couldn't be easier. Just have a conversation with them about their interest, lifestyle and hobbies. Ask if they have a family or not. Find things in common with them. A shared favorite sports team is a great place to start. Don't discuss controversial topics like politics or religion. Avoid anything that may lead to an argument or hurt feelings. Taking the time to build rapport with your customer will make investigating them a snap.

Car Salesmen Tip Two: The Purpose of a Good Investigation Simply put, a good investigation leads to a better chance at closing the sale. Every step of the sales process is made easier with a little knowledge of your customer. For example, you will be able to narrow down cars to present to them if you have a good idea of what they need and what they want. As you develop your relationship you will also naturally build trust, another key factor in closing a sale. These two items will combine to make it more likely that the customer will in fact buy a car.

Auto Sales Training Tip Three: How to Investigate Watch your customers carefully and note what they look at and what draws their interest. When your customers talk, make sure you are hearing what they say. When in doubt, repeat it back to them. Use the information you have gleaned from watching them and hearing them to create a 'Pros' list for use during the selling portion of the sale. This can be an invaluable tool. Finally, stay on track and keep control of the conversation.

The investigation portion of the sales process may be one of the most tedious, but it is also one of the most important. Learn to put good investigating skills to use to discern what your customer wants and needs. Build rapport to make your presentation easier, build trust and close the deal. Use simple tactic like watching, listening, questioning and keeping on track to make investigating easier. A thorough investigation is key to increasing sales.
